COCC offers three pathways in the engineering field:
HELPFUL BACKGROUND
All engineering and physics programs share a common core of math, science, and skills courses. Basic skills in writing, reading, and mathematics are essential. The program requires a high degree of mathematical proficiency with calculus required for all transfer programs. Generally, Engineering Technology relies on good mechanical skills and a background of applied activities. A placement test will help you determine your current skill level and indicate which classes are right for you. Whether you choose to complete a degree at COCC or transfer without a degree, your faculty advisor and transfer school administrator can help you determine which program of study is best for you.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The engineering field has many specializations: agricultural, ceramic, chemical, civil, electrical, electronics, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, nuclear, general engineering, construction engineering management, and forestry engineering. The requirements for a degree, professional certification, and employment vary, so consult with an advisor to determine what is most relevant to your interests and goals. In a few cases, a one-or two-year program in one of the engineering technologies is sufficient for employment.
